Water Safety

It only takes a moment. A child or weak swimmer can drown in the time it takes to reply to a text, check a fishing line or apply sunscreen. Death and injury from drownings happen every day in home pools and hot tubs, at the beach or in oceans, lakes, rivers and streams, bathtubs, and even buckets.

If a child is missing, check the water first. As many as 69% of young children who are found drowned or submerged in swimming pools were not expected to be in or at the pool. Seconds count in preventing death or disability!

Engine Demonstrations & Station Tours

An engine/medic unit demonstration is when a fire apparatus and/or medical unit come to a specified location to provide an educational orientation to the fire apparatus and its equipment. Demos are generally 30 minutes long. During an engine/medic unit demo, personnel stay in-service and with their apparatus prepared to respond to calls for service.

South Metro Explorers

The South Metro Fire Rescue Explorer Program gives young individuals, ages 16 to 21, the unique opportunity to get an inside look at the fire service and experience what it is like to be a firefighter through hands-on training and career development activities. Explorers will learn about the physical and mental demands of being a first responder and the various opportunities a career at SMFR offers.

Arapahoe Rescue Patrol

The Arapahoe Rescue Patrol is a search and rescue team based in Arapahoe County, Colorado. Composed entirely of young adults currently in high school, the members of the Patrol have provided “free search, rescue, and emergency services for the citizens of Colorado’s front range and throughout all of Colorado since 1957.”
